Step 1
Let your child pick them out! Of course, you want to give them a price range. Explain that some kids shoes are over priced because of brand name or affiliation and you simply cannot afford to pay that much for shoes. But let them choose! Having “un-cool” shoes is a sure way to have a fight each morning. If your child truly hates the shoes and refuses to wear them, having spent the money on them is wasted.
-
Step 2
Visit your local shoe store or shop for kids shoes online with your child. Choose a pair that he/she likes, however, make sure they have solid support in both the arch and the ankles. Flimsy kids shoes are an easy way to trip and fall.
-
Step 3
When trying on the kids shoes, make sure there is at least ½ inch of space from the front of the shoe to your child’s toe. This will ensure a little growing room, while still offering solid support.
-
Step 4
Don’t allow Velcro! While it may make it easier on you to not have to tie your kids shoes, it’s not good for them! The shoes with Velcro are more likely to stretch out and lack full support, which can cause serious foot damage over time. Plus kids should know how to tie their shoes! It’s a basic life skill that seems to be forgotten in our new founded lazy world!
