Step 1
First, go to your local auto store and buy a jumper start cable. They shouldn't cost you more than $20.
-
Step 2
Then, drive a working car to the car that needs to be jumper cable started. Face the two car's engines together, so that it'll be easier to access both engines to jump start.
-
Step 3
Next, open both hoods and make sure that both cars have their engines turned off. Make sure that you have enough distance for the jumper cables to reach both cars' batteries.
-
Step 4
Attach one end of the red jumper cable to the positive (+) terminal of the battery of the car that isn't working. Attach the other red end of the terminal to the working car's battery.
-
Step 5
Attach one end of the black jumper cable to the negative (-) terminal of the working car and the other one to the terminal of the car that does not work.
-
Step 6
Then, start the engine of the working car. Try starting the engine of the car that does not work also. Once the car's engine starts, disconnect the jumper cables in reverse order they were attached.
-
Step 7
Once the car is running, give it a couple minutes for the battery to recharge. You are ready to go!

on 1/30/2009 Very good step by step instructions. Last week, the temperature was well below zero and my daughter's car was unreachable, due to the parking of others in her apt. house. So, she just hooked her cables to mine and then to my battery then hers--and VOILA!!
