Things You'll Need:
- a little effort
-
Step 1
Helping the old.
You may not have the funds to shell out but who says you have to give money? You can make friends with older people. Just a visit to see how they are doing, showing some interest and listening to them. Once a month is good. Just doing some of the little things that they need help with is very much apriciated. -
Step 2
Helping the young.
Youngsters love to play, they also need attention and guidance. Play a game with one once in a while. Teach them something new. Listen to them and point them in the right direction. -
Step 3
Helping a friend.
Do you claim friends as friends or are they just a shoulder? Do something unexpected for your friend and watch the reaction. A true friend will help a friend. -
Step 4
We all know how to give to the poor, homeless, sick and disabled. I'm not suggesting monetary. I'm talking about giving a little of yourself to others. The rewards are great and fulfilling. Sometimes you may get tired of giving and start thinking, I give and give and give, they just take and take and take. When you get to that point just take a break and relax. You will see things happen for you. You have nothing to lose. We are just passing through in a body that was given to us to use for a while.
-
Step 5
I see the givers and takers on eHow every day I log in. You can track each writer by the comments made and received on their profile. Why not give a little comment when you ask someone to be a friend or when you are accepted as one. The motive flashes like neon sign, everyone is trying to make money. But here the success stories are the givers.

on 3/23/2009 Thanks for an article that said what needed to be said. At our age of 83 we began to feel that we couldn't do for others as we used to do. But I write my articles for the comments, so I know what they mean to a person. I am an assistant to the web master of our echo.com and get to read all the comments and change the editors choice, the spotlight, comments and the hall of fame. The site is an archive for writers. So instead of growing a large garden and sharing produce, I spend my time on eHow and ourechoes. Below is the address of one of stories. http://www.ourecho.com/story-281-Homemade-Love.shtml

on 2/4/2009 This is a very good article Pappy. I was in Tijuana Mexico getting my teeth done the other day because the costs of a U.S. Dentist for what I needed done would have been outrageous. Of course down there a lot of people have their hand out. So what I did was got 20 one dollar bills in change for a $20.00 before I went over there. I started passing them out to the people who needed it and it felt real good. It wasn't really much for me but it really brightened up someones day.
I know this article is about not just giving money, but my point is you can feel good by giving just a little bit, and there's tons of people out there who need it. However this article makes me rethink my giving strategy. There's an old folks home just 3 blocks away from my house. I'm gonna see about visiting it and donating an hour a month to visit some of them and check in on them.
