Is bread one of the grocery items that you put into your grocery cart without checking the price? A quality loaf of bread can help create many inexpensive meals. Bread is a staple in most households.

However, with the rising costs of groceries in many area of the world, the cost of bread can be anywhere from one dollar to four dollars per loaf. Cheap bread can be purchased, in almost any town, if you know where to look. Here are some tips to help you find cheap bread locally.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find all sources of cheap bread in your city. Look in your local yellow pages or do an internet search for discount bakery + the name of your city or county.

  2. Step 2

Contact your local Kroger or local grocery store. Ask when bakery products are marked down. There usually is a set day or time of day when these products are marked with a lower price. If you know what day and time to get cheap bread, you can save up to fifty to eighty percent off the regular price.

  3. Step 3

Go the the Dollar Tree. The Dollar Tree regularly has loaves of bread, tortillas, hot dog buns, and hamburger buns available for sale. This bread is still fresh, and has a few days before the suggested date of consumption for best quality. Ask the manager or workers when the bread delivery is made.

  4. Step 4

Freeze all the cheap bread the you purchase. Place these in the freezer in a few plastic bags. Simply leave the bread on the counter overnight to thaw. Your frozen bread can also be placed in the microwave on defrost to eat quickly.

  5. Step 5

If none of these options for cheap bread are available to you, look into other bread products. Try something different. Great options are pita breads, flour tortillas, corn tortillas, rolls, and biscuits.

  6. Step 6

When planning your meals for the week, pencil in your cheap bread products. Find a recipe. Find a way to use the bread that is appetizing to you and your family. Try a different type of sandwich, serve gyros, make corn enchiladas, have a quesadilla, or make cheese biscuits.

  7. Step 7

If you want to make fresh loaves of cheap bread, buy a bread maker. People routinely buy expensive bread makers and never use them. Ask your friends and neighbors if they have a bread maker you can have. Place an ad on craigslist.or requesting a bread maker. Offer to come and pick it up with a friend, or meet at a neutral place for safety reasons. Shop local garage sales, and thrift shops to get the bread maker at a deep discount. You can routinely find bread makers at second hand shops between seven and fifteen dollars. Dedicate a few minutes each night to prepare your bread for the next day.

Tips & Warnings
  • The bread maker can only provide cheap bread if you use it.
  • Choose cheap bread with a high fiber content to help you and your family feel fuller longer.
  • If you are not serious about making bread regularly do not purchase a brand new or expensive bread maker.
