Step 1
One criteria would be to judge the MMA fighters on their wrestling ability. Generally, this means were they able takedown their opponent with ease or fend off wrestling attacks like leg dives or upper body throws by their opponent.
-
Step 2
Another area would be the kickboxing or striking capability of the fighter. In essence, which MMA fighter delivered more significant and damaging blows than the other? This means punching and kicking force from the standing and ground positions both.
-
Step 3
The third area deals with jiu-jitsu or submission grappling. To judge in this contexts involves determining which MMA fighter was better at attempting submission holds and defending against them.
-
Step 4
The final area would be octagon control. This criteria would be important for a fight that had limited action. A winner might be decided by picking the MMA fighter that controlled the center of the octagon. Likely one of the fighters backed away more and evaded the action of the fight, and that fighter would lose in this aspect of MMA judging.
