Thomas Paine wrote The Age of Reason in 1793. This writing promoted the idea of deism, which is a belief that there was a God that created the universe. However, that was the end of the relationship. The belief is that God's plan is being played out, but there is no relationship between God and His people. There is no miracles, prophecies, or revelations. This article will discuss how God does desire a relationship with people.

Things You'll Need:

  • Bible
  1. Step 1

Jesus is the prime example of how God wants a relationship with people. Jesus left his heavenly home to be with people, teach them, and of course, save them. God did not have to send Jesus, but chose to because of God's love for us.

  2. Step 2

John 14:21 says, “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." By obeying God, we show our love for God. The promise is that we will "see" Jesus by obeying. When we join God in the work of the kingdom, we see God at work. Helping others, sharing the Good News, encouraging people, and other ways of being Jesus to others gives us opportunity each day to see God. God invites us to join in this work for God values the relationship with us.

  3. Step 3

The Holy Spirit is another example of God wanting a relationship with us. The Holy Spirit is given to us as we ask Jesus to be our personal Savior. We now have a built-in teacher, counselor, friend, director, comforter and so much more and all tied into the Trinity of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We are tied into a relationship with God. He promises to never leave us or forsake us.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read each day in the Bible how God desires a relationship with us.
  • Be wary of any teaching that gives the message that God isn't interested in people, or that God doesn't speak to the people God created.
