Leg Cramps

Ever wake up yelling in pain from leg cramps? Leg cramps are pure torture. To understand what may be causing your leg cramps, read the following steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Research suggests that dehydration may be a common cause of leg cramps. Many athletes suffer from dehydration while working out in warm-weather sports. If you're not working out regularly, make sure to still stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

    • 2

Standing in the same position for a prolonged period time could cause a leg cramp. If you have to stand for long periods of time, make sure to try and do some stretching exercises. Even doing short knee-bends will help lesson leg cramps.

    • 3

Mineral depletion is another common cause of leg cramps. Make sure to get enough potassium, calcium, and magnesium in your diet. Take extra supplements if there is not enough of these minerals in your diet.

    • 4

Diuretic medications especially for those with high blood pressure may cause a depletion of potassium, which will increase the probability for leg cramps. If you're on a diuretic, talk with your doctor about taking a potassium supplement.

    • 5

Legs cramps can be a symptom of a more serious illness like diabetes, anemia, and celiac disease. If you suspect your leg cramps may be a sign of a more serious illness, contact your doctor right away.

Tips & Warnings
