The boom of the home mortgage refinance business in the past twenty years in combination with technological advances of email and Internet capabilities has spawned a new breed of independent contractor - the mobile notary public signing agent.

It takes more than just a smattering of real estate knowledge. Now, you need all the technological equipment and the ability to use it in combination with your old real estate know how.

Got your Notary Appointment? Then here's a list of what you will need to be ready to be a Mobile Notary Public Signing Agent for the next mortgage refinance boom !

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Car
  • Cell Phone
  • High Speed Internet Access
  • Laptop Computer with Internet Access
  • High Speed Laser Printer
  • Fax Machine
  • Notary Appointment
  • Knowledge of Real Estate Mortgage Documents
  1. Step 1

HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS - Not just at home but in your car and on your cell phone and your laptop! Most all refinance loans that close today will close in the borrower's home in one of two ways; the papers will have been printed by a Notary Public and presented to them at their kitchen table or the borrower will acknowledge electronic documents on the Notary Public's laptop while sitting at the borrower's kitchen table. (more commonly known as an eSigning)

  2. Step 2
Get a quality laser printer and fax
Get a quality laser printer and fax

HIGH VOLUME LASER JET PRINTER - Whether you are doing an eSigning with your laptop or a traditional paper closing, there are going to be papers to be signed. You must use a high quality laser printer. In the long run it's cheaper than an ink jet but the cost is not the issue. Ink jet runs and will not be a recordable document in any county in the United States. Get yourself a workhorse of a laser printer.

  3. Step 3

FAX MACHINE - Every lender and every client is different but nine times out of ten you will have something to fax to someone on every deal.

  4. Step 4

CELL PHONE - You are a MOBILE Notary Public Signing Agent - get the best cell phone you can that covers every area you are willing to work in and make sure you can tether it to your laptop to get Internet access for printing those last minute documents in your car - yes, in your car!

  5. Step 5

LAPTOP COMPUTER - This is essential to a Mobile Notary Public Signing Agent! eSignings are no longer coming - they are here, now! You need to be truly mobile and don't take it for granted that the borrower will have Internet access at home or even know how to use it.

Be prepared; take your tools with you and know how to use them!
