How to Make Corners on a Blanket

Blankets come in all different shapes and sizes, and can be made from a variety of different fabrics. Sewing a blanket is easy. Some blankets simply require the edges to be hemmed. Certain blanket-makers sew rounded corners on their blankets, making it extremely quick and easy to put a blanket together. Another way to sew a blanket is by creating square corners.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Sewing machine
• Fabric
• Thread
• Straight pins

1. Choose the fabric for your new blanket. You can purchase this at any fabric shop.

2. Lay the fabric out in an open area and turn the edges down 1 inch on all four sides. Pin the hems in place using straight pins.

3. Place the fabric under the needle of you sewing machine and drop the foot. Begin sewing along the hemline ½ inch from the edge.

4. Sew along the hemline until you get ½ inch away from the corner. Lower the needle, lift the foot and turn the fabric so it is headed down the other direction.

5. Drop the foot and continue sewing all the way down the side. When you get to the next corner, repeat Step 4. If you pick up the foot and turn the corner before sewing, you will have nice and straight right-angle corners.

Tips & Warnings

• Buy a color of thread that matches the fabric so the stitches will blend into the material.
• Before picking up the foot make sure the needle is positioned all the way down.
