Store-bought tanning lotions have chemicals that can protect your body from harmful UVA and UVB rays. These tanning lotions may also irritate your skin because of those very chemicals that are there to protect you. You do have another option. You can make your own tanning lotion at home. The important thing to note when you make your own tanning lotion is that you don't stay out too long in the sun. The tanning lotion will help you get a tan, but it won't protect you from getting burned.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tea pot
  • Tea bags
  • Lanolin
  • Coconut oil
  • Small container with a pump
  • Blender
  • Essential oil
  • Funnel
  1. Step 1

Fill your tea kettle halfway with water and put it on the stove. Bring it to a boil and remove it from the heat.

  2. Step 2

Add some tea bags and wait for the water to turn brown.

  3. Step 3

Pour 1.5 cups of the tea into a mixing bowl.

  4. Step 4

Add 2 cups of lanolin and a 1/2-cup of coconut oil in to the mixing bowl. You can use any oil, but the coconut oil will give it that summer smell.

  5. Step 5

Add 15 drops of your favorite essential oil. This will personalize the tanning lotion and make it unique to you. If you make some for your friends, you can use their favorite oils.

  6. Step 6

Blend the tanning lotion in a blender.

  7. Step 7

Place a funnel inside the container you plan on storing the tanning lotion in. Pour the mixture in and let it settle to the bottom.

  8. Step 8

Place the cap on the tanning lotion container and keep in a cool dry place.
