1
Decide on the overall mood you wish to create. Select small trinkets, flowers or other decorative items to fill the base of the Mason jar. Reflective items are ideal. Glass nuggets chosen for their overall color provide a nice base that reflects light from the flickering candle. Blue and silver are a good combination for a formal party while fiery reds and yellows work for a tropical theme. For a holiday theme, miniature glass balls tucked into the base of a mason jar creates sparkle. For a romantic evening, delicate dried roses and white baby's breath set the mood.

2
Fill the Mason jar three quarters full with your choice of decorative items. Add a complimentary ribbon or pre-gathered lace to the neck of the jar. Cut a 1-inch wide strip of ribbon to fit around the neck of the jar. Glue the lace in place around the neck. Fold the raw edges under and glue to form a smooth seam. Create a decorative bow from complementary ribbon and glue in place to hide the seam. Add a spray of baby's breath or dried flowers to the center of the bow to complete the ribbon.

Select a pillar candle that fits the mouth of the jar. A white candle works well with any color, but choosing a colored candle adds style to the arrangement. A blue candle is stunning with blue and silver glass nuggets in the base. A rich rose or burgundy candles sets the mood for romance.

Use a tall tapered candle, if preferred. Simply push the base of the candle into the Mason jar and anchor with bits of glass. For holders with tapered candles, filling the Mason jar half way with your decorative items allows the candle to show through the glass and creates a splash of color from the Mason jar.
