A pumice stone is an essential necessity to any at-home pedicure set. For those who can't afford to get a professional pedicure, a pedicure kit is just the thing. Keeping all your pieces clean is the only thing that needs to be done, especially the pumice stone since it is very porous and is more likely to collect bacteria due to the moisture.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

In a small pot, add about 4 cups of water and 3 tbsp. of bleach. Bring the water to a full boil and place the pumice stone in the pot. Let it boil for at least 10 minutes. After boiling, discard the water and let the pumice stone dry completely.

  2. Step 2

Another solution to cleaning a pumice stone is to clean it with hot water and dish soap. In a medium-sized bowl, add hot water. Take the pumice stone and slather it with the soap. Now take a toothbrush or a cleaning brush and scrub the pumice stone thoroughly. Rinse the stone with the hot water and let it sit in the bowl for at least five minutes. Take the stone out and place it in direct sunlight on a dry cloth for at least one hour.

  3. Step 3

Others still prefer something as easy as putting the pumice stone in a pillow case and tossing it into the washing machine with the laundry or putting it into the the dishwasher with a load of dirty dishes. Just add detergent to the machine and turn it on. Once the cycle is finished, just remove the pumice stone and let it dry completely.

  4. Step 4

An easier way to clean the pumice stone is to merely rinse it with lukewarm water after each use and let it dry. This can be done under running water in the sink. Dry completely when finished.

  5. Step 5

Finally, the easiest way to clean a pumice stone is to dry brush it. When not in use, just take a cleaning brush and brush it thoroughly, making sure that all the crevasses have been properly scrubbed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always store the pumice stone in a dry place. Never leave the stone lying in water or it will get moldy.
