Things You'll Need:
- Half of a yellow sponge
- Two craft eyes
- Sandwich-sized plastic bags that seal
- Brown construction paper
- Two yellow pipe cleaners
- Red felt
- Black marker
- Tiny craft shells
- Green raffia
- Blue card stock
- Scissors
- Glue

Step 1
Cut the sponge into small rectangles. The sponge may be cut in half or in quarters, depending on how many invitations you need to make and how big you want SpongeBob to be.

Step 2
Fold a piece of blue card stock in half. Add the party information to the inside of the card before decorating the front. Remember to include the day and date of the party as well as the start time and end time. For a child's party, be sure to set an end time which will let parents know when to pick up kids. If parents are welcome to stay, include that information in the invitation. Add the address and a way for guests to RSVP, either by phone or email.

Step 3
Stick a yellow pipe cleaner through the sponge to make two arms. Stick another one through the bottom, into the sponge and then back out the bottom, to make legs. Glue on two eyes for the face. Cut the red felt to make a big red mouth for SpongeBob. Cut a red tie as well. Glue both onto the sponge. Draw a broken line across the top of brown rectangle, to make a belt. Glue the rectangle on for the belt.

Step 4
Seaweed photo by alitaylor/Sxc.huAttach strips of green raffia to look like seaweed. Add tiny shells that you buy in the craft store or draw clam shells and starfish. Sea life stickers will also work.

Step 5
Create an interactive invitation by filling a sandwich bag with the materials to make one SpongeBob, as an alternative to assembling the entire card yourself. Place either the completed invitation or the bag containing the pieces and the folded card into a large envelope. Write a message on the envelope reading, "Guess who wants you to come to a party" or "SpongeBob will fall apart if you don't come to our party."
