How to Make Jell-O Popcorn

Do you love popcorn? Most people do, but after a while, we all crave change. Jell-O popcorn is easy to make and offers a unique twist, sprucing up this snacking standard and giving it a colorful, tasty new spin.

    Things You'll Need

    • 1 1/2 cups uncooked popcorn (or 9 cups popped corn)
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 cup Karo syrup
    • 1 3-oz. package Jell-O (any flavor)
    • 3 qt. cooking pot
    • Large bowl

        Gather all ingredients and supplies together.

        Pop the unpopped kernels. Over high heat, pour enough oil into the saucepot to cover the bottom of the pan and be about 1/4 inches deep. Place three kernels into the pan and then cover. Once the three kernels have popped, add the remaining kernels. Listen closely to the pan. Once you hear the popping slow substantially, the popcorn is done. Remove from the burner and pour the popped corn into your bowl.

        Combine granulated sugar, Karo syrup and Jell-O in a heavy saucepan. Stir slightly and bring to a full rolling boil over medium high heat.

        Remove Jell-O mixture from stove top and pour over popped corn. Blend well, until all of the popcorn is coated.

        Shape popcorn into balls, or leave as is. Enjoy!

    Tips & Warnings

    • You can also use unflavored microwaveable popcorn. If you're using microwave popcorn, cook enough bags to end up with 9 cups of popped corn. Experiment with different flavors of Jell-O. If forming into balls, wet hands between forming each ball to make corn easier to work with. Wrap each popcorn ball in a wax paper square for storage.

    • If you use microwaveable popcorn, be cautious when opening the bags, to avoid burns from the steam.
