How to Plug in a Distortion Pedal

Guitar players have used distortion pedals since the 1960s. There is perhaps no other effects pedal that can bring such a radical change to a guitar's tone. Each distortion pedal can be adjusted to suit the particular player's needs, merely by manipulating the knobs on the unit. Follow these instructions to plug in a distortion pedal and enjoy the wide variety of sounds that can be achieved.

Things You'll Need:

• Guitar cables

1. Locate the input plug on the side of the distortion pedal. The plug with be identified by the word "input" or "in."

2. Connect one end of a 1/4-inch guitar cable to the output jack on the guitar.

3. Plug the other end of this same cable into the "input" jack of the guitar pedal.

4. Locate the output plug on the other side of the distortion pedal. This plug with be identified by the word "output" or "out."

5. Connect one end of the second 1/4-inch guitar cable into the output jack on the side of the pedal.

6. Connect the other end of this same cable into the guitar amplifier.

7. Turn on the guitar amplifier.

8. Activate the distortion pedal by pressing the "on" button located on top of the unit.
