How to Clean a Sonic Toothbrush

Sonic toothbrushes are expensive, so it's critical that you thoroughly clean yours regularly to optimize its use. You should clean your Sonic toothbrush thoroughly every 3 months to rid it of bacteria and viruses that tend to build up on toothbrushes.

Instructions

    • 1

Replace the toothbrush heads. The head of the toothbrush is replaceable because it is more difficult to clean than the stem. The head is disposable and fairly cheap to buy.

    • 2

Rinse off the head of the toothbrush if it's not replaceable. Do this by simply running the bristles of the brush under hot water and gently massaging the bristles with your thumb. This gets the gunk out that doesn't wash away when you're simply rinsing off the toothbrush. It will also kill many excess germs that collect on the toothbrush when it's not being used.

    • 3

Clean the toothbrush stem by soaking it in a cleaning agent, like alcohol. Make sure the head is off the brush if possible. Soak the toothbrush for about 30 minutes to 1 hour, giving the germs time to be removed from the toothbrush. This will sterilize the brush and make it safer to use.

    • 4

Rinse the brush. You do not want to put it in your mouth immediately after it's been cleaned. Rinse off the brush with hot water and maybe even some soap. Do this for several minutes, to be certain that the cleaning agent and germs are gone from the brush.

    • 5

Let the brush sit overnight. A backup toothbrush is ideal for the process of cleaning your electric Sonic toothbrush. This gives the Sonic time to become sterile and for everything to soak in and dry.

    • 6

Replace the head of the toothbrush before use. If, during use, you smell the cleaning agent or can in some other way tell that it's still there, rinse off the brush some more with hot water and soap and let it sit for another night.
