How to Get Rid of Oil Stains on Clothing
There is nothing worse than getting oil on your favorite shirt or pair of pants, especially if you are not sure how to get the oil stain out. If you work as a mechanic, you may have this problem quite often. You don't want to be constantly ruining your clothes, because replacing them can get quite expensive. The important thing is not to panic: There a few things you can do to get the oil out. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
With a Toothbrush
-
1
Pour dish soap directly onto each oil spot. (It will help if your dish soap is of a brand that is known for breaking up grease.)
-
2
Use your toothbrush to scrub the dish soap in to the spot where the oil stains are located. Spend 5 to 10 minutes scrubbing, as this is what will break up the grease and get your garment ready for washing.
-
-
3
Turn on your washing machine, using hot water. Add enough laundry soap for one load.
-
4
Drop the item of clothing into the washing machine and close the lid.
-
5
Hang the piece of clothing out on a clothesline and wait for it to dry. The stain will be gone.
Using Baby Powder
-
6
Lay the item of clothing on a flat surface, with the oil stain facing up.
-
7
Sprinkle baby powder over the oil stain until you cannot see the stain at all. All you will see is a big pile of baby powder.
-
8
Leave the baby powder on the oil stain for 12 hours.
-
9
Sweep the baby powder off of the shirt over a trash can. The baby powder may have turned a darker color, because it will have drawn the oil out of the clothing.
-
10
Wash the clothing in a washing machine, in hot water. Then hang it on a line to dry.

Tips & Warnings
Don't dry your clothing in a dryer; hang it out in the sun. The sun can actually help get rid of stains, because it kills bacteria.
