How to Install New Skin for Yahoo Messenger

Yahoo Messenger has been around since 1998. By utilizing music, avatars and custom status messages, Yahoo Messenger allows the user to customize the look and feel of their instant messenger service. Yahoo Messenger offers IMVironments that allow the user to customize the look of their IM window through themes. These new skins can be found on the Internet, or users can make their own.

Instructions

1. Find or create a skin that you want (see Resources below).

2. Download the skin.

3. Unzip the file for your skin.

4. Go to C:\Program Files\Yahoo\Messenger\Skins and open this folder.

5. Create a new folder in the "skins" folder. To create a folder, right-click anywhere in the folder, choose "new" and "folder." Name the folder to reference the theme you downloaded.

6. Place all the files you downloaded and unzipped into this newly created folder.

7. Log into Yahoo Messenger. Click "Preferences" and choose "Appearance." The folder/theme you created will appear; choose it and click the "OK" button.
