How Do I Print Address Labels in Word?

Homemade address labels can save you time and money. By creating them in Microsoft Word and printing them using your own printer, they are an affordable option to the tedious task of writing your return address on every piece of outgoing mail. You can even embellish them with a picture that suits your personality. Once you learn to make personalized address labels in Word, you might even choose to make them as gifts for friends and relatives.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Avery brand 5160 printer labels or a compatible brand
  1. Step 1

Open a new Word document. Insert a picture either from file or a clip art graphic. To do this in Word 2003, go to the "Insert" menu, point to "Picture" and click on either "Clip Art" or "From File." In Word 2007, click the "Insert" tab and then choose "Clip Art" or "Picture."

  2. Step 2

Right click the picture and click on "Format Picture." Go to the "Size" tab and change both the "Height" and the "Width" boxes to ".75" and then click "OK."

  3. Step 3

Insert a text box directly to the right of the picture. To insert a text box in Word 2003, click on "Text Box" from the "Insert" menu. In Word 2007, click the "Insert" tab and then click "Text Box." Right-click the text box and then click "Format Text Box." On the "Colors and Lines" tab, choose "No Fill" from the "Color" drop-down and "No Line" in the "Line" drop-down. Click on the "Size" tab and change the "Height" to ".75" and the "Width" to "2.00" and then click "OK."

  4. Step 4

Type your mailing information into the text box. Make sure the top of the text box is even with or slightly lower than the picture. If it is higher, your labels will not print correctly.

  5. Step 5

Click out of the text box anywhere on the blank area of the page. Use the "Ctrl+A" keyboard shortcut to select both the picture and the text box. In Word 2003, go to the "Tools" menu, point to "Letters and Mailings" and click on "Envelopes and Labels." In Word 2007, click the "Mailings" tab and then click "Labels." The "Envelopes and Labels" dialog box will open. If you only see the graphic and not the text, don't worry, just keep following the steps.

  6. Step 6

Make sure you are on the "Labels" tab of the dialog and click the "Options" button. Choose "5160 Address" from the "Product Number" list and click "OK." Select "Full Page of the Same Label" and click "New Document." Word will create a new document with a page full of address labels you can then save and print.
