How to Make Borders on Business Cards in Word
Even if you don't have any desktop publishing software, it is easy to use Microsoft Word to make professional looking customized business cards with borders. The borders can be any width or color that you like. You can also make the borders on your business cards feature solid, broken, dotted or 3D lines.

1
Open a new Word document. Click the "Tools" menu at the toolbar that displays at the top of your screen. Another menu will pop up. Select "Letters & Mailings." Then select "Envelopes & Labels."
-
2
Click on the tab titled "Labels." Scroll down the options until you see the one that matches the business cards you plan to use. Even generic and house brands of do-it-yourself business cards reference a standard Avery template that they mimic. Highlight the appropriate selection and click "Enter."

3
Select "New Document" on the same menu that you used to pick the matching Avery number. When it opens, light gray grid lines will indicate the location on the page of each business card so that you can design it and then print it correctly on the pages before punching out the individual cards.

4
Select "Format" from the top toolbar. Then scroll down to "Borders & Shading." A new menu will open. The left side of this menu has the heading, "Setting." Select "All." Then, go to the lower right area of this menu. Select "Apply to Table." Next scroll down the options for "Style," "Color" and "Width." Pick what will best frame your business card.

5
Add text and any images to the business cards. Then look at the print preview and print one sample business card before making any copies. Adjust anything that does not fit within the borders of the grid lines. Finally, print and separate your business cards.
