Traveling to multiple destinations can quickly become a maze if you're unfamiliar with the areas. Being able to find specific directions to and from a location will make your trip less stressful. Use a GPS device to guide you through various areas in a shorter amount of time. Here are some suggestions on how to go about picking the right GPS system for your needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what type of GPS system you'll need. A few examples of GPS systems are handheld, automotive, PDA attachment and laptop GPS systems. Use the GPS to navigate through a planned trip before you get on the road. It can also be used while traveling through unfamiliar locations. Monitor your speed with your selected GPS device to avoid speeding tickets.

Visit the online store at TigerDirect to begin the process of picking a GPS (see Resources below). Click the "GPS Navigation" link located on the left side of the homepage. View the available choices and click on one to get more details. If you'd rather sort the search results even further, select one of the subcategories link located on the left side of the page. To narrow some of the available choices, you can choose to shop by price or brand.

    • 3

Navigate to the Best Buy online store to pick a GPS system (see Resources below). Place your mouse cursor over the "Car & GPS" tab located at the top left of the homepage. Click the "GPS Navigation" link when the drop-down list appears. Select a GPS device by clicking one of the available links on the left side of the Web page. Sort through the various GPS systems by choosing one of the features to minimize the search results. Select according to current offers, brands, prices and even screen sizes.

Go to the RadioShack homepage to view their latest GPS devices (see Resources below). Click the "Car" tab located at the top of the page to locate GPS systems. When the drop-down list appears, select the "GPS Navigation" link to be directed to the next page. Sort through the displayed GPS systems by choosing the price order, most popular brand, price range or even the type of GPS you'd like.

    • 5

Make a list of each GPS system that you'd like to buy. Compare the features of each one. Some GPS devices have built-in Bluetooth that allows you to connect your cell phone to it for hands-free calling. Others include a text-to-speech feature that allows you to keep your eyes focused on the road instead of on the device itself. Another useful feature is automatic traffic and weather updates, which will help you avoid traffic jams and severe storms.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always find out the exact return policy before making a purchase. Always read reviews from previous buyers to find out if it's a good buy (see Resources below).
