Prevent Leg Cramps

There are several ways to help prevent legs cramps. If you're suffering from leg cramps, try these natural remedies.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To prevent leg cramps, take daily vitamins especially calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Make sure to drink enough water throughout the day to remedy leg cramps. Dehydration is a main cause of leg cramps. Drinking enough water will help improve health too.

  2. Step 2

Having leg cramps at night? This remedy may work well by preventing muscles from getting stiff during the night. Apply a heating pad to the leg cramp areas ten minutes before bed.

  3. Step 3

One of the best ways to prevent leg cramps is simply exhausting the stretch reflexes. Do knee bends slowly for ten minutes to eliminate leg cramps. Do quick sets throughout the day whenever you have a few extra minutes. Or make a plan to do knee bends whenever you do repetitive things all day like going to the restroom or getting a cup of coffee.

  4. Step 4

Before going to sleep, keep blankets loose at the end of the bed to prevent leg cramps. Fluffing up your blankets will put less restriction on your legs during the night.

  5. Step 5

If leg cramps are caused by running, make sure to take evenly spaced deep breaths. If you're taking shallow breaths, your diaphragm is not given enough time for the ligaments to relax. When the diaphragm tenses, leg cramps are more likely to occur.
