Your next best hand is a straight flush, which is 5 consecutive cards in order with any suit. For example, 2 of hearts, 3 of hearts, 4 of hearts,5 of hearts, and 6 of hearts (2,3,4,5,6) of hearts is a straight flush. (9,10,J,Q,K) of spades is another example of a straight flush.

  4. Step 4

The next best hand is a four of a kind. This is easy it is four of any card. Four Aces, Four Kings, Four Jacks, Four twos, Four eights.
10 of hearts, 10 of spades, 10 of clubs, 10 of diamonds is one example. You will have five cards in your hand, and with a four of a kind, four of your cards will be the same.

The next best hand is a full house. This is when you have 2 of the same card in your hand and 3 of the same card in your hand. For example, you might have (3) 2's, and (2) 5's-(2,2,2,5,5) or
    (3) K's and (2) 7's- (K,K,K,7,7)

  6. Step 6

    http://z.about.com/d/poker/1/0/e/flush.jpg

The next best hand is a flush. This occurs when you have all cards of the same suit. They are NOT consecutive. Example: You can have (2,4,9,J,A) all of clubs
or (4,8,K,3,2) all of diamonds. As long as you have 5 cards of the same suit you have a flush.

  7. Step 7

    http://z.about.com/d/poker/1/0/d/straight.jpg

After the flush, comes the straight. This is when you have five consecutive cards. They are not all the same suit.
Example: 2 of hearts, 3 of spades, 4 of clubs, 5 of clubs, and six of diamonds- As long as they are in order they are considered a straight.

  8. Step 8

    http://z.about.com/d/poker/1/0/g/fullhouse.jpg

Right below the Straight is 3 of a kind. This is simply when you have 3 of the same card. Three Aces, Three twos, Three nines. (AAA) (222) (555) (999).

  9. Step 9

    http://z.about.com/d/poker/1/0/b/twopair.jpg

Next, is two pair. This is when you have two of one card and two of another card in your hand. For instance in your five card hand you might have (2) 7's and (2) 9's and a 5. (7,7,9,9,5)
(A,A,4,4,3) is another example of a two pair hand.

  10. Step 10

    http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/1038606/2/istockphoto_1038606-cards-01-poker-pair.jpg

Right below two pair, is a pair. This is when you have only 1 pair of cards. For example of a 5 card hand you might have (4,5,7,J,J)- a pair of Jacks or (3,3,8,K,A)- a pair of threes. When you have 2 of one card, it is considered a pair.

  11. Step 11

The lowest possible hand is a high card. This is simply when none of the above hands apply so you look in your hand to find the highest card. For example, if you had (3,4,6,8,K)- which does not fit in any of the above hands, you would have a King high.

  12. Step 12
