How to file for a tax return for FREE

If you use the 1040 or 1040EZ, it is a breeze to use turbo tax online, and is FREE and quick to file. MUCH better than forking out $100 for someone else to simply fill in a few blanks for you.

Things You'll Need:

• A computer with internet connection
• your W-2 forms

1. GO to turbotax.com

2. Click on the 1040EZ & simple returns section with the button marked "start now"

3. Create your account with all your information.

4. Fill in the blanks of your tax form with the sections on your W-2 that match. Usually they are listed in the order that they appear from top to bottom on your form

5. Don't try to get all sorts of extra tip help from the site, they will charge you if you upgrade to anything. Just fill out your form, They have changed rules this year, so sadly you cannot do STATE taxes for free anymore. I just tried, and had to amend this step!

6. Enjoy your free tax return. We've earned the money, we deserve to get our paycheck back for free! I highly recommend doing it yourself if you can, it is simple and easy!

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't have experience, and are feeling insecure about doing your tax returns, then have with you (friend or family) who has a little more experience to help if you need it, or give you tips and as a confidence booster. It can be scary filing yourself the first time. But, you'll find that the questions asked on the turbo tax site are self explanatory and usually require little effort. Before you know it, you won't be asking for help anymore!
