Things You'll Need:
- Money
- A good map
-
Step 1
The most conventional way to get around Bangkok is by taxi. There are three types of taxis - metered cars [similar to a taxi you would see in any other big city], tuk-tuks, and motorcycle taxis. All three are slow, although the motorcycles can move in and out of traffic more quickly than most vehicles. They are a reasonable option for getting from the airport to your hotel, but should be used only for short trips thereafter.
-
Step 2
Another way to see Bangkok is by bus. The buses are inexpensive but can be confusing and slow. If you wish to ride the buses, it is a must to buy a bus route map. They can be found at most bookstores in the city.
-
Step 3
The skytrain is a somewhat expensive option, but it is unrivaled in speed and comfort. Although it reaches many different parts of Bangkok, the skytrain will not take you everywhere you need to go. It is best used along with the next two means of transportation, the river ferry and subway.
-
Step 4
Ferries are a useful way to quickly and cheaply travel to different points along the river. They depart constantly from the early morning until sundown. Stay on the ferry for a while to catch a glimpse of parts of the city that would otherwise be unseen by tourists.
-
Step 5
Bangkok's subways are similar to the skytrains, except they run underground. The subway system is limited in range and relatively expensive, yet clean and comfortable. Most travelers will use it sparingly, but combined with the skytrain and ferry one can see a lot of Bangkok without wasting time in traffic.
