Things You'll Need:
- Shoes with laces that won't stay tied.
- bar soap or bees wax
- a scrap board about 2" wide and at least 6" long
- elastic cord 1/8" in diameter.
-
Step 1
Tuck the loops and the tails between another lace and the tongue. The first method involves just the shoes. It's better than double knot because it's easier to untie and a child who knows the regular shoe-knot can do this.
Simply take the tied loops and tails of the knot, and tuck them between the laces and the shoe tongue. -
Step 2
If that isn't what you had in mind, with the laces in the shoes, make a mark on the shoelaces where the knot will form.
-
Step 3
Remove the offending shoelaces from the shoes. If they are laced in a special way and it is your child's shoe, do take note, because this can be important!
-
Step 4
Secure the shoelace by winding it around a scrap wooden block in such a way that a portion of the lace involved in the knot is taught and is not overlapped by another winding of the lace.
-
Step 5
Firmly rub the soap or candle into the shoelace. Much like pressing hard with a crayon. Rub until the soap/wax is worked well into the fiber of the shoe lace.
Repeat this for both sides and ends of the lace. -
Step 6
If the ends of the lace are frayed, now is the time time to trim them and wrap them with a short bit of duct tape or electrical tape so that you can lace the shoe back up!
Lace the shoe again.Give it a try! -
Step 7
If you need an easier solution still, try this:
Get some elastic cord that's wrapped in braid. Like bungee cord, but smaller. Most major fabric stores will have the cord. Get a length twice as long as a shoe lace (enough to lace the shoes twice!). -
Step 8
Lace the shoes with the elastic.
-
Step 9
Put your foot in and tie an overhand knot in the ends. Walk for a spell in the shoe and make sure the knot is where you want it, make adjustments in the knot, trim the laces about an inch from the knot.
You should not have to tie ot untie the laces ever again!
