Step 1
To download BT file, the first you need a "seed" for the file. So the first thing you need to find is the seed. There are several place you can find the seed, but there are not "good seed". It can be a trap to hunt your computer. So you don't just go any place to get the seed.

There are some fake site on the internet, so make sure you go the right place. -
Step 2
After you got the seed, than you need a BT client to open the seed.
I use to use "Azureus". It is not best, but support Mac and PC. or you can use "limwire" to open the seed.
You also can use other BT client software to open the seed, for example this site

At least I am sure, all of the basic client software are free, so don't pay any fee or membership fee. It is file share, which mean the file you download also share to other people from your computer. -
Step 3
When you have BT client, you open the seed, and you wait for it to complete.
The BT file are usually use to share a Big file. So it will not finish in a min. Sometimes it take several days to download. When more people download the same file, you will get it fast.
Also make sure you get enough space on you HD.
