Want to try something a little different for breakfast, mid-afternoon snack or a midnight treat? Here is a simple recipe handed down from my mother in law, that is sure to please your sweet tooth while actually being nutritious at the same time!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • toaster, toaster oven, or regular oven
  • white bread or bread of your choice
  • cheese, any kind will do
  • Jet Puffed Miniature Marshmallows
  1. Step 1
    toast with cheese

First, toast the bread so it won't be soggy on the bottom. I'm using white bread, but whole wheat is very good too. Place the bread on a small baking pan or a cookie sheet, depending on how many you are going to make.

  2. Step 2

If you use a regular oven, preheat it to broil (top element in stove). Next, broil the cheese until melted. I use Velveeta, but you can use whatever cheese you prefer---American sliced cheese or sliced cheddar cheese will work just as well.

  3. Step 3
    cheese toast with unbroiled marshmallows

The next step is to place the Jet Puffed Miniature Marshmallows on the cheese toast, coaxing them to stay put until you place the pan in the oven. This is probably the hardest part of the recipe!

  4. Step 4
    Ready to serve!

Place pan with prepared toast in oven and time for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. Watch carefully! The marshmallows brown quickly in a preheated oven! When it gets to desired doneness take it out. I always broil the marshmallows until "golden brown"...But some people like theirs a little on the burnt side! Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Enjoy with a mug of your favorite hot beverage.
  • Hot chocolate would be just perfect!
  • Use caution when placing the pan in oven and taking it out of the oven, make sure sleeves are not too close to burner.

on 1/28/2009 Yes, sounds odd...LOL I thought it was odd myself when I first heard of it, but it is very good. I done a search on it just to see how odd it was, and I only found 30 links. It may have been a recipe from a label a long time ago, or maybe just a mother having weird cravings or a child getting creative that invented it...LOL I'll have to ask my mother in law how she came up with it.

on 1/28/2009 Next time the grandkids are over, I'm going to try this. I'm "known" for odd, but fun cooking projects..and this one seems, well, odd. To me anyway. But I am guessing if it's a passed down recipe, it's probably excellent !
