Bake A Chocolate Bourbon Cake

This article will guide you in baking a chocolate bourbon cake.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • flour
  • cocoa powder
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • water
  • bourbon whisky
  • unsalted butter
  • espresso coffee powder
  • sugar
  • eggs
  • vanilla
  • confectioners sugar
  • light corn syrup
  • milk
  • semi sweet chocolate melted
  1. Step 1

Begin by heating the oven to 325 degrees. Use a 9 inch bundt pan grease and flour it. In a medium bowl combine 2 cups of all purpose flour, 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1 teaspoon of salt.

  2. Step 2

In a 2 1/2 to 3 quart saucepan combine 1 1/2 cup of water, 1/3 cup of bourbon whisky, 2 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter and 1 1/2 tablespoon of instant espresso coffee powder. Over medium heat stir the bourbon mixture until the butter melts. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in 1 3/4 cup of granulated sugar into the mixture. Let the mixture cool for 10 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Whisk in 2 large eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla gradually to the flour mixture. When the ingredients are combined pour it into the prepared bundt pan.

  4. Step 4

Bake in the oven at 325 degrees for 1 hour. You can check to see if the cake is done by placing a toothpick into the center. It's done when the toothpick comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Invert the cake and remove from the pan and let the cake completely cool.

  5. Step 5

Glaze: In a medium size bowl stir together 2 cups of confectioners sugar, 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup and enough milk until the glaze is smooth and pourable. Place a baking sheet under the rack where the cake is. Pour the glaze over the cake, using a spatula to help cover the cake completely. Drizzle the melted semi-sweet chocolate over the top of the cake. Refrigerate until the glaze is set.
