Things You'll Need:
- Stove top
- Cast iron skillet or non-stick skillet
- 2 slices of fresh ciabatta or French bread
- 2 tablespoons of salted butter at room temperature
- 2 slices of Smoked Gouda or Sharp Cheddar
- Olive oil spray
- Garlic powder
- 1 slice of fresh tomato-optional
- 1 slice of fresh sweet onion-optional
-
Step 1
Prepare the food items. Slice the cheese to the desired thickness. Take a fresh tomato and onion and slice less than a quarter of an inch thick. Cut the bread length wise—make sure to have the top and bottom piece equal in size and proportion.
-
Step 2
Preheat your skillet on the stove to 325 degrees. Cast iron works best for an 'even' temperature but any non-stick skillet will suffice.
-
Step 3
Line the warm skillet with a splash of olive oil spray.
-
Step 4
Spread the butter on both sides of the bread. Place one slice on the skillet and the add the cheese, tomato and onion. Add the other slice to the top.
-
Step 5
Sprinkle one side of the sandwich with garlic powder. Flip and repeat on the other side.
-
Step 6
Brown the sandwich lightly until firm.
-
Step 7
Remove from heat. Cut in a triangle and serve immediately.
