First you should look all over the internet for ideas of how you would like to decorate your baby's nursery. You should look for something that could grow with your child. I choose a vintage cowboy look for my son's room. This way he won't be outgrowing it till grade school. For example, if you choose Winnie the Pooh your child will likely outgrow this in his or her toddler years.

  2. Step 2

Now select a few of them items from the crib set you choose. I chose the bedding, lamp, border, and diaper stacker. Now you can build your theme around those items, without having to buy everything in the set.

  3. Step 3

Next I went to my local do it yourself store, and had them match two tones of paint to match my wallpaper border. I put the wallpaper border around the middle of the walls. Then I painted the bottom a dark red, and the top a more neutral brownish color. Both were exact colors from the border, giving the room a tied together look.

  4. Step 4

Now I accented the room with a few of my own touches. I choose a medium color wood for all of the furniture, further giving it a western look. My husband's grandmother made handmade curtains in a cowboy print for the windows.

  5. Step 5

My sister as one of my shower gifts painted a mural of a cowboy scene on one of the walls, further giving the room that custom look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have fun, and be creative with your baby's room. If you know someone who does murals ask them to do one as a gift for the baby. Know someone who sews? Ask them to do curtains, or baby blankets for the room.
  • Choose a theme that can grow with your child.
  • Choose colors and themes that you won't get sick of either, you'll be spending a lot of time in this room.
