How many times have you taken a ton pictures at a special event only to discover when you transfer them to your computer they are plagued with the dreaded red eye? Red eye happens when the lighting is incorrect and the camera lens can't process it correctly. Fear not though, red eye in a photograph is easy to fix using this Adobe Photoshop tutorial.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    The Red Eye Removal Tool

    Open the original picture with the red eye. With the image open, on the Tools palette, select the Red Eye Removal Tool (J).

  2. Step 2
    Click the center of the red eye
     
    Click the center of the red eye

    Click in the center of the red portion of the eye that needs fixing. With one simple click, Adobe Photoshop will darken the eye while keeping the tone and texture of the eye.

  3. Step 3

    If you are not happy with the result, you can adjust the pupil size and darken pupil elements. Simply move the slider settings the desired amount or type in the amount you want to adjust.

Tips & Warnings
  • Play with the settings until you get it just right.
  • Save your fixed photo by using the "Save As..." option and give it a new name. This way you preserve your original image.
  • This trick also works well with animal images.
  • You can hit Ctrl+(+/-) to zoom your image in and out quickly.
  • Red Eye Removal tool only works with RGB or LAB color images.
