How to Find An Avatar

Avatars... your alter ego

An avatar, or buddy icon, is the picture you pick to show on your profile for sites like eHow and Yahoo, on your userID for Forums, or instant messaging. Many of these sites have a gallery of avatars already available, but some prefer to find an icon that is more unique, or better suited for their personality (online or otherwise).

Here's a few tips to finding a free avatar:

   Check your own photos first. There may be a headshot, or picture of your favorite pet that you can upload and use as your avatar. Most sites have size requirements, so you may need to crop your photo before you upload it.

2. Check out Avatare's blog. You can get there directly from the link below, or you can view by going to FindAvatar.com and clicking on the blog link. Scroll through the posts to find some cool Sailor Moon anime avatars, Spiderman, Tomb Raider and more.

   To save, right click on the image, choose 'save image as' and save it to your desktop. You can then edit your profile and upload your new avatar.

3. 

   Try Avatarity.com - not only do they have tons of artistic avatars for you to use, but they also have a link for free imaging hosting services. You'll need one of those for remote hotlinking, if you are wanting to use an avatar on a forum that doesn't allow you to upload to their site.
