Step 1
The old saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is true with everything including companion animals. Poodles can be a more difficult breed to take care of but with the proper information you and your Poodle will be happy and healthy.
-
Step 2
First and foremost with any companion animal spaying or neutering is of the utmost importance. Another thing to look at are the shots your animal may be receiving. Poodles are among the few breeds that are prone to problems with vaccinations. Their immune system could overreact and end up attacking the vaccine so be sure to not to over vaccinate. Bring up any concerns about the shots with your vet.

Step 3
Poodles also have special grooming needs. They are unusual where they don't have fur, they have hair. This means that like your hair which keeps growing, so does their hair. This means that frequent grooming is necessary and a must if you decide to take on the care of a Poodle.
-
Step 4
Doing home checks is a good way to make sure that your friend is well taken care of. Make these check ups part of your regular routine and it should make for good Poodle maintenance.
Rub the body looking for unusual lumps and abnormal weight gain.
Check the eyes and make sure they are very white and free from discharge.
Look at the ears for any redness or swelling.
Make sure the teeth are white and no abnormal odor is coming from the mouth. -
Step 5
Finally good nutrition and exercise is always one of the best ways to make sure any breed or species of animal is healthy and happy. Cherish your companion and treat them just as well as you would treat yourself.
