How to Change the Ink Cartridge in an HP Officejet 5510

By Daniel Barrows

The HP Officejet 5510 possesses all the capabilities of a printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine, and is compatible with both PC and Macintosh computers. It can print color documents at a resolution of 4,800 x 1,200 dpi, and black-and-white documents at 1,200 x 1,200 dpi; print speed averages fifteen pages per minute. The HP Officejet 5510 uses a two-cartridge system; one cartridge contains black ink, the second is a tri-color cartridge. Replacing the ink cartridges is a simple task that you can complete in a matter of minutes, regardless of technical proficiency.

Turn on your printer and lift the access door until it locks into place. The print carriage will move to the center.

Once the print carriage has stopped moving, remove the empty cartridge by pushing down on it and pulling it towards you.

Remove the replacement cartridge from its packaging. Peel the pink tape away from the bottom while holding the cartridge by the sides.

Hold the replacement cartridge with the label on the top. Slide cartridge into the appropriate slot (right side for black ink, left side for tri-color). Insert cartridge at a slight angle, then apply pressure until it snaps into place.

Close the print carriage access door.

If the display panel is prompting you to align the print cartridges, press "OK." Otherwise, align the print cartridges manually by pressing "Setup," then "5," and then "2." The printer will print an alignment page.

Place the alignment page on the glass, flush with the top left corner and with the top of the page nearest the left side of the glass.

Press "OK"; the printer will now align the print cartridges. Once this process is complete, you may dispose of the alignment page.
