Things You'll Need:
- Pattern Pins Chalk Scissors Fabric Batting Fiberfill Thread Needle
-
Step 1
Determine the shape and size of your neck pillow. You can make any shape and size by creating your own pattern, or you can find patterns online or at your local discount store. Your pattern should be t2 inches larger than your finished pillow.
-
Step 2
Place your fabric face side down onto a flat surface and lay your pattern on top. Pin the pattern to the fabric for security. Use your chalk to trace your pattern onto the fabric.
-
Step 3
Cut two identical shapes from the fabric for your neck pillow. You could choose to use two colors or mix up the fabric designs. It's your custom designed neck pillow, so be creative. Cut two identical shapes of the batting to fit the size of your neck pillow. The batting rests inside the pillow between the fiberfill and the fabric, helping define and hold the shape of the pillow.
-
Step 4
Place the two cut-out pieces of your fabric face to face and pin them together, 2 inches from the edge, all the way around. This will allow you to sew the edges of your neck pillow together evenly and quickly, especially if you use a sewing machine.
-
Step 5
Sew the edges of your neck pillow using the line of your pins as a guide. Leave a 5- to 6-inch opening so you can turn your pillow and stuff it. Sew one piece of batting on either side of the pillow. Sewing the batting in works best for a neck pillow as it is curved and the batting will help maintain the curvature of the pillow.
-
Step 6
Turn your pillow inside out, which will now leave you with the front of the fabric facing you on both sides. Stuff the neck pillow with fiberfill to your desired cushion. Over-stuff it a bit as the air will escape with use, causing the fullness of your neck pillow to reduce.
-
Step 7
Sew the opening together securely.
