1. Talk openly with your agent about what makes a successful open house and what you can do to help; listen closely to your agent's suggestions for preparing your home before the open house.

2. Get rid of clutter, noisy pets, make necessary repairs and get rid of odors in the carpets and do a general cleanup to make a good impression.

3. Make the agents' visit memorable and pleasant with food and drinks. Play soft background music and open drapes and curtains to let light in, which will help rooms look bigger. Your agent should provide all the marketing materials such as photos, brochures and flyers.

4. Let realtors see the house by themselves so that they can discuss weaknesses with candor and without worry of hurting your feelings.

5. Provide comment sheets for the agents so they can give their comments on the home's price and appeal, anonymously. This will help you to get as much feedback as you can from the realtors ' you might even get some ideas on how to improve the presentation of your home.
