Cleaning your HP printer cartridges is a very easy process. HP printers are self-cleaning; you merely have to know how to tell the software to clean the hardware. How often should you clean your printer? When your printer is printing streaks on your printouts, you know the printer needs to be cleaned. HP recommends that you do not clean your printer otherwise.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Double-click the "HP Digital Imaging Monitor" icon on your taskbar. The HP Solution Center window will open.

  2. Step 2

    Click the "Status" button. The HP Status window will be displayed.

  3. Step 3

    Choose "View Ink Levels." The HP Toolbox window will open.

  4. Step 4

    Select the "Device Services" tab.

  5. Step 5

    Select "Clean the Print Cartridges." The "Clean the Print Cartridge(s)" window will be displayed.

  6. Step 6

    Select the "Clean" button. Be sure to read the information on this page first. It warns you not to clean the printer if there are no streaks on your printouts.
