How to Write Articles for Content Sites

  1. Step 1

Start brainstorming. Before you can begin writing content articles, you must decide what topic you're going to write about. The best way to do this is to open up a word-processing program and let your subconscious mind take over. Do this by writing down all of the topics you're knowledgeable about. Continue this process until you have at least 10 good ideas.

  2. Step 2

Conduct research on a keyword analyzer. Take each topic on your list and enter them into a keyword analyzer (such as SEO Book or Word Tracker). The program will return phrases that are entered into search engines.

  3. Step 3

Create a new list of topics. As you are going through the phrases created by the keyword analyzer, you will need to determine which ones are going to be profitable. Start by eliminating any phrase that has less than 50 searches. Now, take your most popular terms and enter them into a search engine, making sure you put quotes around them. If the resulting listings are less than 10,000, there's a good chance you can get a high SEO ranking. Place the topic into a new list. Make sure you discard any topics that have more than 10,000 listings.

  4. Step 4

Pick a topic for your current article. From your new list of topics, choose one keyword that seems the most interesting to you. Save the other terms for your future articles, so you won't have to do additional research.

  5. Step 5

Gather research material for the topic. If do not feel comfortable writing about the topic from the top of your head, gather additional research. But instead of using a keyword analyzer, you will want to visit another content site, such as Ezine Articles or Associated Content. You could also consider visiting the websites associated with your local library, as they may give you access to old magazine articles.

  6. Step 6

Write a thesis statement. At this point, you can start writing your content article. Begin this process by creating a thesis statement. This is a sentence that explains the three main points your article is going to talk about. You can even bluntly list your topics, while separating them with commas.

  7. Step 7

Set your stopwatch. The stopwatch will give you some idea as to how long it take you to write an article. This is important if you plan on making a decent living from content sites.

  8. Step 8

Start writing. Here comes the fun part ... writing the article. Half of the work is already done by the fact you have the thesis statement. So, basically you just need three paragraphs that talk about each topic in the statement as well as a concluding paragraph.

  9. Step 9

Maintain proper keyword density. As you are writing your article, make sure your main keyword is included 2 to 5 percent of the time. So, if your article is 500 words, you will want to have your main keyword mentioned 10 to 25 times.

Tips & Warnings
  • Good content articles are short, fun to read and written in a conversational manner. Overly formal, 'essay-like' articles are not needed unless you're writing for a professional content site.
  • Do not stuff keywords into your content article. While it's important to use proper keyword density, if you overdo things your article will be awkward to read.
