How to Host a Pie Fight Party

A pie in the face may be the oldest gag in the book, but it doesn't mean a full-fledged pie fight can't still be great fun. At your next party, all you need to do is take a pile of whipped cream on a plate and let it fly toward an unsuspecting victim, and an all-out, calorie-laden brawl will surely begin. Whether your guests know you're planning a pie fight party in advance or not, it can become messy entertainment for all. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Stock up on enough whipped cream and paper plates or cheap pie tins to make enough projectiles. You'll probably want to make at least 10 pies for every person in attendance. A large supply of plates and cream should be inexpensive.

    • 2

Cover all the furniture in your house with plastic sheeting for protection, at least in the room(s) where the fight will take place. Store all valuable and fragile possessions far away from the area of combat. If you don't cover the carpet, prepare to steam clean it afterward.

    • 3

Decide whether or not to tell your guests about your planned pie fight ahead of time. If you simply invite everyone over without explaining the details, it can be fun to see them wonder why everything is covered up and then see their surprise when you throw the first missile. On the other hand, letting them know in advance can help them prepare, making sure they don't wear nice clothes.

    • 4

Fix and set up enough pies before the party so there will be plenty of ammo once it starts. Start with at least 20 pies, and make sure the remaining plates and whipped cream will be accessible. If you have a big table, that will be the perfect place to set the pies.

    • 5

Pick the right time for the fight to begin by throwing the first one, especially if you're surprising everybody. Don't wait too long, though. With the pies laid out and everything covered, someone is bound to quickly catch on, grab a pie and beat you to it.

    • 6

See where the fight and the fun go. It may turn into an all-out melee, with everyone fighting everyone for themselves. Or you might have people teaming up to form army camps, using the furniture to create their own fortresses.

    • 7

Find stuff in the room you can use for catapults or slingshots. A recliner chair pulled back to the reclining position and then snapped back to the seating position may work (but don't try it too many times or it you might break the chair).

    • 8

Have plenty of stuff to use the remaining whipped cream with once the chaos dies and peace is restored. Stock plenty of ingredients to make milkshakes, sundaes and banana splits. Of course, you may end up throwing those, too.
