Blood stain removal can be difficult, especially if the blood stain has dried on the fabric. Removing a fresh blood stain from clothing or other fabrics is much easier, so it's advisable to clean the blood stain as soon as possible after it occurs. Try to following tips to remove blood stains, even old, dried blood stains on clothing or fabric.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cold Water
  • Salt
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Scrub Brush
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Color Safe Bleach
  • Hydrogen Peroxide (20 Volume or the Next Strongest Concentration You Can Find)
  • Blood Stained Clothing or Fabric!
  1. Step 1

FLUSH THE STAIN WITH COLD WATER: Using cold running water, rinse the blood stained fabric. Using a gentle scrub brush on the stain while the water runs over the stain will improve stain removal results. If you do not have a scrub brush, fold the blood stained fabric and gently rub the fabric together to "scrub" the blood stain from the fabric fibers.

  2. Step 2

SOAK THE STAIN IN SALTY WATER: Add 1 teaspoon of salt to 500 mL of cold water, placed in a bowl. Let the blood stained fabric or clothing soak in the salty water for about 20 minutes before using a scrub brush to gently remove the blood stain from the fabric fibers. In many cases, the blood stain will be removed completely by the end of this step. If so, proceed to step 4.

  3. Step 3

USE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE TO REMOVE STUBBORN BLOOD STAINS OR DRIED BLOOD FROM FABRIC OR CLOTHING: For especially tough-to-remove blood stains - especially blood stains that have dried - you will need to mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide (the strongest concentration you can find) with 9 parts water. Allow the blood stained clothing or fabric to soak in the solution for 10-15 minutes. After soaking the blood stain, use a scrub brush on the blood stain to remove the blood from the fabric fibers.

  4. Step 4

RINSE THE FABRIC/CLOTHING: After using the salt and water solution in step 2 or after using the hydrogen peroxide and water solution in step 3, you must rinse the fabric using fresh, cold water. Rinse well.

  5. Step 5

LAUNDER THE BLOOD-STAINED FABRIC/CLOTHING WITH DETERGENT AND COLOR-SAFE BLEACH: Finish by laundering the stained item with laundry detergent and color-safe bleach.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stain removal is easiest when the stain is still fresh. If you allow the stain to dry on the fabric, this makes stain removal much more difficult.
  • Use caution when applying the hydrogen peroxide and water mix to delicate fabrics. Hydrogen peroxide, if used at a strong concentration, will discolor fabrics. If in doubt, perform a spot test on an inconspicuous spot of the fabric or clothing beforehand.
