Building a basement shower is a great addition to your home. This can be moderately challenging depending on many factors. This is not a project i would recommend to a novice carpenter

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • shower stall, waterlines, plumbing drains, fixtures, hammer, drill, nails, screws, brazing equipment, pipe cutters, fittings, framing material.
  1. Step 1

The very first thing you must do is locate and move plumbing. To install this shower you must have a drain and water lines. Moving plumbing can turn a weekend job into a very expensive project. the best advice is to have a plumber set your drains and water lines because one mistake here can become costly.

  2. Step 2

Now that your drain and water lines are set, you need to frame the outside to the shower. If you are using a fiberglass shower all you need to do is frame the outside walls of the shower. To frame these you need to measure frome the back wall of the shower to the outside edge and secure a 2x4 to the ceiling and the floor. Now measure the space between each 2x4 and place vertical boards in between using screws or nails (try to place these 16 inches apart from the wall to the outside edge). The vertical studs may need to be adjusted depending where the plumbing is located.

  3. Step 3

Now that your shower is framed it is time to set the shower stall. First you want to slide the stall into the framing. Making sure that drain in the shower meets the drain in the floor. Each stall has a lip around the edge, secure that lip to the 2x4 framing this will keep your stall in place.

  4. Step 4

It is time for the plumbing. Have your plumber attach all water lines, drains and fixtures. Once this is completed have it inspected if nessecary in your town or city. You may do the plumbing if you are confident enough ensure a correct job.

  5. Step 5

Now you will want to do all the finishing work. Install sheet rock with a water barrier around all exposed 2x4s. Then place a shower curtain or door depending on your budget.
