Things You'll Need:
- Mac Os X Leopard which includes Boot Camp
- A Mac with an Intel Chip
- A copies of Microsoft Windows
- Owners of older Non-Intel Chip Macs can get Virtual PC
-
Step 1
First you must install the windows operating system on your computer. If you are running OS X Leopard on your Intel Mac then it is included. If you are running an older version of OS X you must download it from the Apple website. Once you have bootcamp on your machine it's as simple as installing any other software. Bootcamp will partition your disk drive for you and you install Windows with all of the drivers. With bootcamp Windows will run at native speed and allow you to do everything that you would on a regular Windows machine.
If you have an older machine without the Intel Chip you will need to purchase Virtual PC. This will install on your Mac just like any other software. It will run a bit slower as the software emulates a Pentium II processor which is quite old now. -
Step 2
With bootcamp after you've installed Windows you must reboot the computer in order to get Windows. While the computer is powering up you must hold down the Option key and you can choose whether you want Windows or Mac operating system.
With Virtual PC there is no reboot it's like opening up an application. -
Step 3
If you don't want to have to go through the trouble of rebooting your Mac everytime you want to use Windows there are programs out there like VM Ware Fusion and Parrallels that will allow you to switch back and forth between the two programs without restarting your computer.
