Commercial ferret food can get expensive. I learned this easy way to make supplementary food for my ferrets that they love.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blender
  • Meat (Chicken, Turkey, Rabbit, or Lamb)
  • Chicken livers
  • 5 eggs
  • Medium Saucepan
  1. Step 1

Cut meat, including bones, into small chunks. Place in blender with enough water to cover meat.

  2. Step 2

Run blender on low or puree for about a minute. Add eggs, including shells, and liver. Continue blending on low or puree until thoroughly pureed.

  3. Step 3

Pour into saucepan. Simmer for 30 to 40 minutes. While ferrets are adjusting to this new food, add some of their normal food to the mix about ten minutes before cooking is done. A small amount of honey can also be added to encourage ferrets to eat the mix.

  4. Step 4

Cool and freeze excess. Serve to ferrets in small portions once or twice a day as a supplement to their normal diet. Older ferrets may reject new foods. Younger ferrets usually take to it easily. It is good to get ferrets used to a variety of foods when they are young.

on 9/20/2009 Just want to add one thing - make sure you boil the bones before you blend them! Not only is it better for your blender, but it softens the hard material so that it doesn't harm your furbabies!
