Hit a Hook Shot in Golf

Occasionally a golfer has a need to hit a hook shot. The hook shot may be necessary to get around obstacles such as overhanging limbs, trees, etc. There are many ways to accomplish this shot. The point at which a fade becomes a hook can be discussed to infinity without a clear answer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set-up with your normal grip posture an alignment. Power up your grip by moving both hands to the right This will result in a more closed club face at impact.

  2. Step 2

You will also need to close your stance. This is accomplished by moving your right foot back. Now make sure the ball is played back in your stance a little more than you normally would. Now swing along your foot line which should be a very inside approach to the ball.

  3. Step 3

All of these combined steps should greatly increase the inside approach of the down swing and you should hit a nice hook.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will need to spend considerable time practicing this shot. The degree of ball movement to the left can only be determined through practice.
