Things You'll Need

  • 50 Newborn Diapers
  • Gross-Grain Spool of Ribbon
  • 1 pkg.. Small Rubber Bands
  • Travel Size Baby Toiletries
  • Various Rattlers, Onesies, Toys (Optional)
  • Card Board Box
  • Empty Paper Towel Rod
  • Double Sided Tape

Instructions

      Roll up like a diploma.

      Take all of the diapers out of the package for the baby diaper cake.

      Roll each diaper up tightly, tucking in the tab design so you see only white. Once you roll a diaper, place a rubber band in the center. When finished, each diaper should look like a rolled up diploma.

      Make a plate for the baby diaper cake out of a cardboard box.

      Cut out a circle or a rectangle from a cardboard box.

      It should be large enough to place your baby diaper cake on. Wrap it with paper/tin foil. Securely tape the empty paper towel rod to the middle of the cake plate.

       A baby diaper cake recipe uses rings for each layer- Working from the inside, out.

      Assemble the bottom layer of the cake.

      Gather 5 of the rolled up diapers and stand up long ways, going around the paper towel rod (black in diagram.) The five diapers make one complete circle, or ring (teal).

      Still on the bottom layer, gather 10 diapers, and place around the first ring. This completes the second ring (yellow.)

      For the outer ring, gather 15 diapers and go around one last time (blue). This completes the bottom layer of the cake.

      Go all the way around the entire layer with the gross grain ribbon. Make sure the ribbon covers the rubber bands. Cut ribbon long enough to tie a bow.

      After following the baby diaper cake instructions for this layer, sit it on top of the bottom layer.

      Make the middle layer of the baby diaper cake.

      For the first circle, use five diapers. Go around the paper towel rod. For the second circle or ring, use ten diapers. Sit this layer on top of the bottom layer.

      The middle layer has only 2 rings. Gather ribbon around the entire middle layer, making sure to cover the rubber bands. Cut the ribbon long enough to tie a bow.

      This is a diaper cake recipe for a three layer cake. You can make it two if you so choose.

      Build the third layer of the baby diaper cake.

      To make a third layer, use five diapers for one ring. Gather ribbon around the entire layer, making sure to cover the rubber bands. Cut ribbon long enough to tie a bow.

      When you make a baby diaper cake,  use your own preferences of items to tuck in!

      Tuck baby toiletries, onesies, flowers, cards, or other small gifts in layers.

      To place an item on the very top, gently push the gift down in the middle of the top layer. There is a small amount of space to work with between the top of the paper towel roll and where the top layer ends.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make this economical, buy a travel pack of baby toiletries. This is just the right size for a baby diaper cake.
