How to Throw a Cross Punch

When you practice martial arts, boxing or kickboxing after the jab the next essential punch that you will learn is a cross, which usually comes right after you throw a jab, and it is a more powerful punch. The trick to make it more powerful is the way you rotate your body. Here also if you are right handed, your right cross will have more power and vice versa if you are left handed then your left will have more power. The step by step here are for a right cross.

Things You'll Need:

  • Gloves
  • Mouth piece
  • Head piece
  • Shins
  • Chest protector
  1. Step 1

    Position yourself with your left foot ahead of you but not too much so you do not lose balance, also called right foot stance.

  2. Step 2

    Next position yourself with your elbows close to your chest, so that you are ready to defend and your right arm a little higher than the other one.

  3. Step 3

    Raise your right foot slightly as you are twisting your body when punching.

  4. Step 4

    At the same time your cross should be at approximately at a 90 degree angle and not extending the full arm. And make sure that you are wrists are straight when punching.

  5. Step 5

    Bring your arm right back so that you can defend yourself with your left foot to the floor so that you do not lose balance.

  6. Step 6

    Do not let your other hand drop when throwing a cross.
