Things You'll Need:
- Ping Pong ball
- Ping Pong paddle
- Ping Pong table
- Opponent
-
Step 1
First you must realize all the options you have to hit the ball back and when to use which ones. So here are your options. Forehand, Backhand, Forehand Spike, Backhand Spike, also there are different ways to put spin on the ball and how to return those spins, but will just leave this as a beginner article.

Step 2
So now that we know our basic options, which one do we use. The best way to decide between a backhand and a forehand is just which one comes naturally. So if the ball is hit to your left you will probably use a backhand and if it comes to your right you will most likely use your forehand. This is not always the case, so just use what feels right during the game. Now you know when to use a backhand or a forehand, how do you know when to spike. This is pretty simple, if the ball is it higher than normal and you are fairly confident you can hit the table, then put a little something extra on the ball and capitalize on your opponents error.

Step 3
Even with all this I would have to say the most important step is just to practice a lot and have fun doing it.
