Things You'll Need:
- Flashlight and batteries
- candles and matches
- oil lamp and lamp oil
- salt or ice melt
- blankets
- radio
- food
- gloves/mittens, winter hat, scarf

Step 1
Check your local weather for updates on the storm's expected time of arrival.

Check your supply of food and necessities (such as bread, bottled water, toilet paper). If you do not have enough to supply your family for three days, plan a trip to the store.

Locate and test your flashlights to make sure they are in working order.

Step 4
Locate matches, candles, extra batteries, oil lamps or battery-operated lanterns.

Step 5
Locate your supply of salt or ice-melt. Place it next to your front door.

Step 6
Check the heating tape on your water pipes. Make sure the heating tape is plugged in and in working order to keep your pipes from freezing.

Step 7
Charge your cell phones for maximum battery charge in case of a power outage.

Step 8
Gather extra blankets, gloves, mittens, winter hats and scarves. Put them somewhere that they can easily be reached in case of a winter emergency or power outage.

Step 9
Check your back up heat source. If you have a kerosene heater, put it somewhere that is easy for your to get to if you need it. Make sure you have enough fuel.
