How to Work at Subway

As of 2011, the Subway franchise employs more than 300,000 people worldwide in a variety of positions at the local restaurant level, the regional level and at the restaurant headquarters in Milford, Connecticut. When you are seeking work at a Subway restaurant, you want a local restaurant level position. Since Subway restaurants employ a career ladder method of advancement, most careers begin at the "sandwich artist" level. Individual restaurants offer job applications for potential employment at their specific location. Applying online allows you to turn-in your application to multiple Subway restaurants in your area.

Instructions

  1. Apply Online

    • 1

Visit the Subway website and click on "Careers." Click "Local restaurant jobs" and agree to leave the main Subway website when a redirect box appears on your computer screen.

    • 2

Click the "Apply today" button. Put your ZIP code into the provided box and click "Search."

    • 3

Check the boxes for each Subway unit you want to receive your job application and click "Apply."

    • 4

Input your first and last name, email address and the provided verification code. Click "OK."

    • 5

Wait for an email from Subway to arrive in your inbox. This email contains a link to the employment application and should arrive within five minutes.

    • 6

Complete the Subway application. The application asks for your personal information, education information, work history and references. The application also includes a questionnaire that requires information related to your availability as a worker.

    • 7

Click "Submit" when you are done with the application to send the data to Subway. If a local restaurant needs workers, you will be contacted.

    Apply in Store

    • 8

Visit the Subway you want to work at and request a job application. Ensure that you are well-groomed and dressed neatly to present a solid impression.

    • 9

Complete the job application at the restaurant if at all possible. You must fill in your personal information, employment history, educational background and availability for work. The paper application also includes a basic employment questionnaire that tests your ability to provide correct change and handle certain customer service situations.

    • 10

Ask the person who provided you with the application if the manager or an assistant manager is available to receive your application. If the manager is not available, turn the application in to the person who provided you with it.

    • 11

Wait for a call-back for a job interview. When you turn in your application, jot down the date and call the restaurant after one full business week has passed and ask to speak to the assistant manager or manager in charge of hiring. Inquire about your application status and restate your desire to work at Subway.

Tips & Warnings

  • Evaluate your education, experience and physical condition. Subway requires some high school education or the equivalent, the ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions, and the ability to run a point-of-sale cash register system after proper on-the-job training. Also, you must be able to lift at least 10 lbs. regularly and 30 lbs. on occasion.

  • Jobs at the Subway regional and headquarters level are managerial slots that require experience within Subway restaurants or national positions that demand a specific educational background.

  • Complete your online application within 24 hours of receiving your email. If you do not do so within this time frame, you must revisit the Subway website and provide your name and email address again.
